My Journey

In April 2018, I was diagnosed with Hashimotos. After experiencing symptoms such as weight gain, depression, extreme fatigue, cold intolerance, puffiness, pain, and GI issues, I saw my primary care doctor who told me I have Hashimoto's and prescribed my levothyroxine. However, I didn't feel better and nothing changed. I went on to see an endocrinologist and she adjusted my medication but said your symptoms are your symptoms and there is nothing that can be done to change that. So I decided to continue looking for another doctor, but I started doing the hard work at home. I was determined to get my health under control. I went on the AIP protocol and started modifying my workouts to get my inflammation under control.

It took me 4 tries but the 4th doctor was the one I had been looking for, a naturopath specializing in Hashimoto's. While I did the hard work at home, she adjusted my thyroid medication and everything started working together. Slowly but surely, my quality of life was coming back. I lost 45 pounds, my depression was gone, my energy levels started to stabilize and when I would look in the mirror I could see"me" again. Do I still struggle, yes, Hashimoto's is lifelong, but I have developed tools that have allowed me to thrive despite having an autoimmune disease. As I was getting better, I saw others were still trying to figure out why their Hashimoto's was controlling their life. After being a hairstylist for 10 years, I gave it up and went back to school in 2020. I have my Bachelor's in Health Science and will begin my Master's in Clinical Nutrition to become a Registered Dietitian. I've walked the journey and am still walking it, but I want to share all my resources with others, in hopes that they can gain control over their health and begin to live a thriving life.
